Carriacou Museum Launches Artifact Advocate Program with International Partners

Carriacou, Grenada — Thursday, November 20th, 2025

The Carriacou Museum launched its first-ever Artifact Advocates Program, in partnership with the Cultural Emergency Response (CER) and ACEPR (Asociación de Conservación y Estudio del Patrimonio Cultural de Puerto Rico).

From August 28–31, 2024, Gretchen Ruiz Ramos (linktr.ee/gretchenruizramos) of ACEPR traveled to Carriacou to train local community members in artifact care and disaster response. Four community leaders—Elizabeth Bedeau, Ricardo James, Shanda Jones, and Veronica Thomas, were trained as Artifact Advocates, joining volunteers across the island to protect and preserve Carriacou’s historical collections.

Quote:

"This has been an amazing experience for me that I will cherish for life. Grenada is definitely a special place, and once I landed, I knew this would be the first of many visits. I feel deeply committed to continuing to support the Carriacou Museum team in their efforts to preserve and protect their cultural heritage.” — Gretchen Ruiz Ramos PhD, Asociación de Conservación y Estudio del Patrimonio Cultural de Puerto Rico (ACEPR)
